About timber frame

Timber frame is often considered a faster build alternative to that of traditional masonry construction.  A recent independent report commissioned by Rider Levett Bucknall showed that timber frame was the most cost-effective structural solution, offering an overall cost saving of 2.8%.

Furthermore, timber frame construction is quicker, provides superior sound proofing and it’s sustainable to name just a few benefits.

With some major builders strategically positioning themselves to increase timber frame construction, coupled with the possibility of embodied carbon being part of the new ‘2025 Future Homes Standard’, it’s certainly a topical area.

Currently 23% of new builds in England are built using timber frame (pbctoday, Sept 25, 2019).  This is likely to grow significantly should embodied carbon targets be created.
