A copy of the Guide to your new home is automatically issued, alongside Buildmark documentation, for every plot registered with NHBC. This A4 guide explains how tenants of registered social landlords can get the best from their new home.
The Guide to your new home has been created to give the consumer all of the information they need about what to expect living in a brand new home, and to help ensure that moving in and living in a new home home is a smooth and happy experience. It is intended for general information purposes only and is not a summary of cover for the consumer or the social housing provider.
The document offers advice on what to look for on moving-in day and how to ‘settle’ a new home over the first few months, as well as safety, security, care and maintenance. It also offers pointers on essential services such as electricity, water, gas and central heating, and how to carry out DIY such as attaching wall and floor fixings correctly, decorating, connecting appliances and more.
It also clarifies the legal responsibilities of housing associations and landlords, and appendices describe how new homes are built and lists useful points of contact.
Copies can be ordered in packs of 5, 10, and 50.
NB: This guide is not suitable for shared ownership schemes and private tenancy agreements.
